Historic Yorktown Events for 2013; Offices closed for Presidents' Day

 

Historic Yorktown Schedule of Events for the 2013 Season

     Looking for new and exciting events to enjoy with your family and friends this year? Historic Yorktown plays host to a multitude of diverse activities packed with excitement and fun for the whole family. The calendar is filled with festivals and events all aimed at bringing the community together sharing good times and making memories. So, come together and celebrate in 2013 at one of Yorktown's favorite annual events, including:
 
March:
Schooner Alliance Returns to Yorktown March 17
     Set sail for a bygone era aboard Yorktown's 105' tall ship The Schooner Alliance. Three sails daily from Riverwalk Landing Pier, March - Nov. Food and beverages available for purchase. Admission fee. Advanced reservations recommended.
 
Yorktown Trolley Resumes Service March 23
     The Trolley starts its 13th year of service on Saturday, March 23 providing transportation throughout the village of Historic Yorktown from the Yorktown Battlefield to the Yorktown Victory Center, as well as several stops in between, including Riverwalk Landing. Operates daily March 23 - May 24 from 11 am to 5 pm daily with extended hours May 25 - Sept. 2 from 10 am to 5:30 pm daily and Sept. 3 -Nov 3 from 11am to 5pm daily- Free.
 
April:
Gallery at York Hall Opens for Season April 2
     Come and enjoy the opening season with a beautiful Quilt Exhibit and relish in the revolving exhibit of fine art in all media by local artists for display and sale. Open April-Dec., Tues. – Sat., 10 am to 4 pm; Sun., 1 to 4 pm. York Hall. 301 Main Street.
 
Yorktown Kite Demo & Gathering scheduled for April 13
     Join us at the Yorktown beach front for kite demonstrations and an afternoon of kite flying. Bring your kite or borrow one of ours. For more information call Patriot Tours and Provisions at 757-969-5400 or email patriottoursyorktown@gmailcom for any questions.
 
May:
Yorktown Market Days Season kicks off May 11 with a Fitness Market
     The annual farmer's market season begins on Saturday, May 11 and continues through September 28 weekly from 8 am to 12 pm. The market features seasonal fruits & vegetables, fresh seafood, eggs, poultry, beef & pork; fresh breads, cheeses, baked goods, peanuts, cut flowers,  organic & gluten free products, potted plants, coffee, jams & jellies, quality art, and live musical entertainment. Riverwalk Landing.         
 
June-August:
Shagging on the Riverwalk Beach Music Concert Series
     Put on your dancing shoes and join us for this annual concert series featuring a variety of beach music for all ages to enjoy. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Riverwalk Landing.
Thursdays, June 6, 13, and 20; July 11, 18; and 25; August 1 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.        
 
July:
July 4th Independence Day Celebration
     Come to historic Yorktown and salute America along the waterfront beginning with a 9 a.m. patriotic parade on Water Street and during its evening Independence Day Celebration, featuring a bell-ringing ceremony at 7 p.m. and patriotic entertainment at 8 p.m. at Riverwalk Landing, followed by spectacular fireworks on the York River at 9:15 p.m.
 
August:
Military Band Concert Series
     A different ensemble performs each week presented by musicians from Naval Weapons Station, Langley Air Force Base and Ft. Eustis, VA. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Riverwalk Landing. Tuesdays, August 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 6:30 to 8 pm. 
 
Virginia Symphony Concert returns to the Waterfront on Saturday, August 31
     Enjoy a pre-concert performance by The Fifes and Drums of York Town and picnic judging at 6 pm. Pack a picnic supper, bring a lawn chair or blanket, and enjoy the performance under a canopy of stars at 7 pm. 
 
September/October:
Rhythms on the Riverwalk Concert Series
     We've stepped things up a bit, literally! This year's concert series features three Fridays of toe tappin' Jazz and Big Band followed by two Fridays of knee slappin' Country. Get your toes tappin' to fantastic sounds during this five-week concert series. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Riverwalk Landing. Fridays, September 6, 13, 20, and 27; October 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.   
 
Yorktown Art Stroll returns on September 29
     Art galleries, unique shops, museums, bed & breakfasts and the Historic Freight Shed will be filled with paintings and hand crafted artwork by some of the region's most talented artists. Restaurants will feature lunch and supper specials and more from 12 to 6 pm. 
 
October:
Yorktown Wine Festival set for October 5
     Come and sample wines from premiere wineries throughout the Commonwealth from 12 to 6 pm. Art and food vendors, plus entertainment, are also scheduled. Rain or shine. Riverwalk Landing.          
 
Yorktown Market Days and Fall Festival set for October 12
     In addition to the usual array of fresh produce, meat and seafood, baked goods, coffee, specialty cut flowers, quality art and entertainment, there will be hayrides, a pumpkin patch, Children's Hay Maze, Face Painting, and Children's Activities and games from 8 am to 3 pm. Riverwalk Landing.         
 
Yorktown Day, October 19
     Patriotic ceremonies, a parade, fifes and drums performances, and tactical demonstrations by "The Old Guard" commemorate the 232nd anniversary of America's momentous Revolutionary War victory at Yorktown. Yorktown Battlefield. 9 am to 5 pm.        
 
November:
Yorktown Holiday Open House Weekend set for Saturday and Sunday, November 9 and 10
     Soak up the ambiance of Historic Yorktown. Special events, festive decorations, special sales, discounts, door prizes, strolling entertainment, and much more await you as you start or finish your holiday shopping. Hours of operation vary by business.  
 
Yorktown Market Days, November 9
     As part of the Yorktown Holiday Open House Weekend, the market will operate with extended hours from 9 am to 3 pm and offer items unique to the holiday season, in addition to the usual array of fresh produce, meat and seafood, baked goods, coffee, specialty cut flowers, quality art and more.
 
December:
Yorktown Celebrates Christmas with 2 full weekends of holiday fun
     Historic Yorktown will be full of holiday cheer Friday, Dec. 6 through Sunday, Dec. 14, as it kicks off the holiday season with six special events: a Christmas Tree Lighting, Christmas Market on Historic Main Street, Lighted Boat Parade and Cookies with Santa the first weekend Dec. 6 though Dec. 8. The 2nd weekend concludes with Yorktown Market Days and Toyland Parade.
