York EDA to replenish E-Commerce Grant Program funds

September 13, 2012

FOR RELEASE AT WILL

Due to its extreme popularity, the York County Economic Development Authority has voted to add more funding to its E-Commerce Grant Program.
The program, launched in 2005, was designed to encourage website and e-commerce development of York County's businesses.
Originally funded at $30,000, the program's coffers were depleted down to $1,500 within seven years. The EDA recently earmarked $10,000 to replenish some of the funding.
The program awards matching grants on a first-come, first-served basis. Grants are 50 percent of total project costs, up to $500 per business ($1,000 for minority or woman-owned enterprises), and are for design work only. Annual maintenance and service fees are not eligible for grant funds, nor is work performed prior to grant approval. Eligible projects include the establishment of a new website or upgrades to an existing site that will allow for online transactions, a more visible web presence, and/or a more user-friendly interface.
Since the program's inception, 54 York County businesses have received grant funds to improve their websites. The program continues to be the most popular program offered by the Economic Development Authority. Other programs include the Home-Based Business Transition Grant Program and the NxLevel Scholarship Program.
Visit www.YesYorkCounty.com for full program guidelines or contact the Office of Economic Development at 757-890-3317.
