DMV2Go returns to Yorktown Library on June 18

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles' DMV2Go mobile office program continues its regular stops in York County every other month. The next visit of DMV2Go is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Yorktown Library, 8500 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown.
DMV2Go is a full service office on wheels that conducts DMV transactions that would usually have to be done at a DMV office, including applying or renewing driver's licenses, ID cards and Veterans ID Cards (issued if the veteran supplies a copy of their DD214).

County offices to close July 4 in observance of Independence Day

The following York County courts and offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day:
Courts - Closed
York County Offices - Closed
Virginia Cooperative Extension Service - Closed
York-Poquoson Social Services - Closed
York County Public Libraries - Closed
Waste Management Administrative Office - Closed
Waste Management Center - Closed
Regional Yard Waste Composting Facility - Closed
Recycling pick-up scheduled Thursday, July 4, will be picked up on Saturday, July 6. Garbage pick-up from Thursday, July 4, to the end of the week will be delayed one day, so Thursday's pick-ups will be on Friday and Friday's on Saturday.

Grafton Bethel Elementary 3rd grader wins Mosquito Beater poster contest

Grafton Bethel Elementary 3rd grade student Victoria Sun was selected as winner of the York County Mosquito Beater 2013 poster contest
The yearly contest is the culmination of county staff's outreach efforts to teach elementary students about mosquitoes and how to prevent them from breeding and biting. After learning where mosquitoes breed, why female mosquitoes need blood, and how to camouflage themselves using loose clothing and bug spray to avoid mosquito bites, students are encouraged to participate in a poster contest, using their creativity to portray the knowledge they have gained.
A $25 gift card from Barnes & Noble was awarded to one poster winner from each school. Victoria was chosen as the overall winner from all schools and was presented with an additional $25 gift card. Victoria's poster was selected out of 149 posters completed and submitted by county third-graders this year.
