July 4 general parking and handicapped/special needs parking

June 13, 2012

FOR RELEASE AT WILL

Public parking for the Yorktown Fourth of July Celebration will be on the Yorktown Battlefield at the intersection of Cook Road and Ballard Streets.
Event Parking for the evening activities is free and available beginning at 4 p.m. Visitors should be prepared to walk approximately one mile from the Battlefield Parking area to the Yorktown waterfront to attend the events.
The Yorktown Trolley will provide the only means of public transportation in Yorktown on July 4. The trolley will operate on a route that includes stops at the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center, the York-Poquoson Courts and Office Complex, the York County Administration Building, the intersection of Main and Ballard Streets, Riverwalk Landing, Watermen's Museum and the Yorktown Victory Center. Service begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. The Yorktown Trolley is handicapped accessible and free.
A special parking area and shuttle service for handicapped and special needs visitors will be available at Yorktown Middle School, 11201 George Washington Memorial Highway, (Route 17 and Goosely Road).
Special needs transportation is being provided to the handicapped/special needs person and one escort for each individual. Due to limited shuttle capacity, all other individuals in the party need to take a separate vehicle and park in the event parking at the corner of Ballard Street and Cook Road.
Due to high traffic volume, drop offs are not permitted in Yorktown or at the Yorktown Middle School special needs parking area. Vehicles transporting handicapped/special needs persons to Yorktown Middle School must be parked at the school. Each person will be issued a pass and must have the pass to return on the shuttle at the end of the evening. The shuttle will drop off and pick up handicapped/special needs individuals at the Yorktown Waterfront approximately 200 yards from the performance area.
Operating hours for the handicapped/special needs check-in station at Yorktown Middle School on July 4 are 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Shuttle services will be available from the handicapped/special needs parking area to the Yorktown Waterfront from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Shuttles will return from the Yorktown Waterfront to Yorktown Middle School from 9:45 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Parking and shuttle services are free.
