YCRC Update - Sept. minutes, resolution & petition form, coming events, 3 Oct mtg

Greetings, Fellow Republicans!

è Attached please find a copy of the YCRC Sept. mtg. minutes to review before tomorrow’s 7 PM meeting at York High School’s auditorium. Also attached is the Resolution with a Petition Form approved at the Sept. meeting for Cong. Rob Wittman. Some copies will be available at tomorrow’s meeting printed on YCRC letterhead for you to use to collect signatures to turn in at the 7 November YCRC meeting. Feel free to print off extra copies from the attachments to begin collecting signatures from concerned citizens and visitors.

è Unfortunately, our Oct. meeting’s scheduled guest speaker from the Cuccinelli Campaign has had a schedule change and cannot attend. (I hope you will be able to visit the NN HQ on Warwick, just south of Oyster Pt. Rd. today to meet with Ken Cuccinellli at 7 PM! (Many thanks to Exec. Vice Chairman Chad Green for some quick calls on Monday to secure an excellent presentation for tomorrow’s meeting!)

è In keeping with the October Meeting Theme - Preparing for Election Day, our guest speaker will be Mrs. Ginger Crapse, 2nd Vice Chairman of the Williamsburg Republican Committee, with a presentation we all can use these last few weeks until Election Day:

How to Convince Others to Vote Our Way Without Being Confrontational! The techniques she will be teaching us use a process of active listening with questions back that help the person swing over to our side…coming to that conclusion on their own. Ginger has had success in turning hard-core liberals over to support conservative candidates & issues by using these techniques! I know I’m looking forward to learning how to do this to help us reach victory this November!

è There has been some confusion with potential new members who receive the YCRC Membership Application form that all they have to do is fill it out and send in a check to join, not realizing they have to personally appear twice at a meeting: to be introduced one month and then voted on at the next meeting they attend. To help alleviate this confusion, I created a brochure-style backside (using MS Publisher) for the application form that gives the Republican Creed, what YCRC does, and the steps to join us. Both the YCRC application form and the brochure-style backside are attached in pdf format for you to print on one sheet (one document on each side) and pass along to friends who would like to join the YCRC. Once you print them, tri-fold them with the brochure side out and the form inside to pass to others. A few will be available at tomorrow’s meeting.

è WE NEED YOU to help achieve VICTORY next month through « Phone Banking, « Door Knocking, « Neighborhood Gatherings, « Letters to the Editor, « Help at HQ, « Friday Sign Waves along Rt. 17 @ HQ, « Poll Worker @ YC Precincts on Election Day, etc. PLEASE SIGN UP AT TOMORROW’S YCRC MEETING! There’s something for everyone to do – you can choose your favorite way to volunteer!

Stop by the YC HQ during daily operating hours to volunteer: Mon. – Sat., 9 AM – 9 PM and Sunday, 2-6 PM! Stop by the HQ TODAY to get yard signs, bumper stickers, and lit about our candidates to help you get their names out and answer any questions from potential supporters! Respond to this email to let me know what you’d like to do if you can’t attend the meeting! J

I look forward to seeing you all at tomorrow’s YCRC meeting! (If you’re attending Del. Brenda Pogge’s York County fundraiser at the Long’s tomorrow, remember to come to the YCRC meeting after you visit with Brenda!)

Lynda

On September 25, 1789, Congress passed the Bill of Rights. The First Amendment Right of Free Speech is the cornerstone of our Republic. Today our cherished Free Speech rights are under assault.

The 56 Islamic states that make up the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are attempting to pass UN Resolution 16/18.  This resolution criminalizes speech considered offensive to a religion. Any speech can be labeled ‘hate speech’ if someone simply declares it offensive to his/her religion. The current Obama administration has indicated a willingness to sign the resolution in the UN.

Starting this week, ACT! for America Chapters all across the country are hosting Free Speech events.

On the Peninsula we are hosting an event on Saturday, October 12, 9 AM at

Angelo's Steak and Pancake House 755 J Clyde Morris Blvd. Newport News, VA 23601

      9:00 Check in & order meal, 9:30 Presentation, 10:30 Q&A

Please order breakfast, which will be from a limited menu at a set price of $12.

A minimum $5 donation is requested to help defray expenses and will be collected at the door.

Thank you!

Seating is limited and registration is required by clicking HERE.  Please provide your name(s), city/county, and the names and email addresses of any guests.

Our program will feature two short videos "Silent Conquest" and "UN Resolution 16/18 - What You need to Know."

Learn about UN Resolution 16/18 and the OIC’s goal to criminalize all speech critical of Islamic related topics. In Europe, individuals (including an ACT! chapter leader!) have already been charged under Islamic blasphemy laws because they dared to speak the truth. It will happen here if you do nothing! Don't let the UN take away your right of Free Speech!

Fire Prevention Week; Smith named President of Library Association; Yorktown Day closing

Fire Prevention Week October 6-12 – Prevent Kitchen Fires!

October 1, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fire Prevention Week is October 6-12 and the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety is joining forces with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to remind residents to "Prevent Kitchen Fires." During this year's fire safety campaign, fire departments will be spreading the word about the dangers of kitchen fires--most of which result from unattended cooking—and teaching local residents how to prevent kitchen fires from starting in the first place.
According to the latest NFPA research, cooking is the leading cause of home fires. Two of every five home fires begin in the kitchen—more than any other place in the home. Cooking fires are also the leading cause of home fire-related injuries.
"Often when we're called to a fire that started in the kitchen, the residents tell us that they only left the kitchen for a few minutes," said York County Fire and Life Safety Captain Paul Long. "Sadly, that's all it takes for a dangerous fire to start. We hope that Fire Prevention Week will help us reach the members of our community before they've suffered a damaging lesson."
Among the safety tips that firefighters and safety advocates will be emphasizing:

• Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, broiling, or boiling food.
• If you must leave the room, even for a short period of time, turn off the stove.
• When you are simmering, baking, or roasting food, check it regularly, stay in the home, and use a timer to remind you.
• If you have young children, use the stove's back burners whenever possible. Keep children and pets at least three away from the stove.
• When you cook, wear clothing with tight-fitting sleeves.
• Keep potholders, oven mitts, wooden utensils, paper and plastic bags, towels, and anything else that can burn, away from your stovetop.
• Clean up food and grease from burners and stovetops.

The York County Department of Fire and Life Safety will be hosting and participating in the following activities during Fire Prevention Week to promote the prevention of kitchen fires, as well as fire and life safety for all ages.

• Saturday, October 5th - 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Home Depot, 6700 Mooretown Rd.
• Saturday, October 5th - 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. K-mart, 118 Waller Mill Rd.
• Saturday, October 5th - 11 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 1st Advantage FCU, 110 Cybernetics Way
• Saturday, October 5th – 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. K-mart, 5007 Victory Blvd.
• Sunday, October 6th - 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. K-mart, 118 Waller Mill Rd.
• Sunday, October 6th – 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Open House at Fire Station 1, 5751 George Washington Memorial Hwy.
• Saturday, October 12th - 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Open House at Fire Station 3, 114 Hubbard Lane

Through these educational, family-oriented events, residents can learn more about the importance of fire escape planning and practice, as well as the power of prevention.
To find out more about Fire Prevention Week programs and activities in York County, please visit the Department's website at www.yorkcounty.gov/fire or by calling (757) 890-3600 Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more about "Prevent Kitchen Fires" visit NFPA's Web site at www.firepreventionweek.org.

On September 27, York County's Library Director, Kevin W. Smith, was named president of the Virginia Library Association (VLA).  The purpose of the VLA is to develop, promote, and improve library and information services, library staff, and the profession of librarianship in order to advance literacy and learning and to ensure access to information in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Over the last six years he has coordinated and led an annual delegation of Virginia librarians and library advocates to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of congress in order to discuss legislation related to libraries and the field of information science. YCRC Call for Mtg. 5 Sept 2013

Greetings, Fellow Republicans,

I hope you all have enjoyed the “Summer Break” and are rested and ready to hit the ground for these last 67 days of campaigning!

Attached and below, please find the Call for the 5 Sept. YCRC meeting.  Please note the venue change to Bruton High School’s auditorium.

t I’ve learned that many Republican Committees throughout our Commonwealth strive to grow their membership by rotating meetings throughout their localities, especially those whose geography stretches lengthy distances so that the same people aren’t always having to travel long distances to every meeting. In other words, they take turns to ease the travel burden as well as to reach possible new members in those areas. Several YCRC members have brought up that they would like some meetings to be nearer to them since York County does stretch across quite a lengthy distance from our southern area next to Hampton & Poquoson all the way up to Williamsburg & James City County. In that effort, for the next few meetings, we will be rotating throughout York County, usually to YCSD schools, to meet in each of our five districts. In addition, meeting in the auditoriums will allow us more space to break into our district/precinct groups for campaign/election/other planning.

If you have any friends who are upper York County residents, please invite them to join us on Sept. 5th at Bruton HS since we’ll be in their neighborhood! A membership form is attached.

BHS: 185 E. Rochambeau Dr., Williamsburg, VA 23188. If you take I-64W towards Williamsburg, take the Camp Perry exit, turn left at the stop sign. (Camp Perry entrance will be to your right.) Turn right at the light onto E. Rochambeau. Bruton HS will be on your left – you’ll want the 2nd driveway into the school as the first one is the BHS exit (one way in, one way out).

t On the Call’s agenda, please note that Bob D’Eramo’s name has been re-added to the list of possible new members for election. Bob was introduced at a 2012 meeting and had his application form mistakenly filed as having been voted in as a member, but he was not as he missed the next meeting. He has been unable to return to a YCRC meeting since Jan. due to recovering from serious injuries in a near-fatal car accident, but he let me know this summer that he’d like to return. He’s now back on the list and will be voted on at the next regular YCRC meeting he attends. We look forward to having Bob join us, again! (Many thanks, again, to Bob for allowing YCRC to place our booth in front of his Ben & Jerry’s shop on Water St. for the Yorktown 4th Celebration!)

t The 6 June minutes will be sent in another email before the 5 Sept. meeting for your review.

t Don’t forget – if you cannot attend the meeting, a non-YCRC member who lives in your York County District can attend in your place as your proxy so you’re not  counted as absent. Since YCRC must follow RPV Party Plan rules, if you miss three (3) consecutive meetings, you resign your membership and lose all voting/speaking privileges. A proxy form is attached for your convenience.

I look forward to seeing you all next Thursday, 5 Sept., at Bruton High School to hear Suzanne Obenshain speak about Mark’s campaign and to organize our grassroots’ Get Out The Vote efforts to help our Republican candidates WIN in November! We only have 67 more days left to work towards VICTORY!!

For God and Country,

Lynda
